Who can attend Coast Academy (Age, skill level…)?
- Coast Academy welcomes participants of various ages and skill levels. We offer programs for beginners who have never surfed before, as well as intermediate surfers looking to improve technique and ocean awareness. Specific age requirements may vary by program.
Do participants need to know how to swim?
- Participants should be comfortable in the water. While advanced swimming skills are not required, basic water confidence is important for safety.
Does Coast Academy offer beginner-friendly surf programs?

Yes. Our programs are designed to accommodate complete beginners. We start with foundational skills such as ocean safety, board positioning, and pop-up technique before progressing into the water.

What is a Surf/Beach camp?
- A surf/beach camp is a structured program where participants receive professional surf instruction combined with beach activities, ocean safety education, and team-building experiences.

- Beach Camp – 1:6 Coach to Camper
- Surf Camp – 1:4 Coach to Camper
Safety:
What does the water safety protocol look like?
- Each session begins with a beach safety orientation covering ocean conditions, rip currents, and proper surf etiquette. Instructors remain in close proximity to participants while in the water and adjust activities based on ability level and surf conditions.
What happens when weather or ocean conditions are unsafe?

Coast Academy coordinates all water activities with LA County Lifeguards. Activities and daily schedules can be adjusted to maintain safety.

- Yes — Early Bird (10% until March 31st), Multi-Week, Sibling, and Community codes, stackable up to 15%.
What is the cancellation/ refund policy?
- Full Cancellation/Refund Policy is provided at Checkout.
- Parents must cancel 2 weeks prior to the scheduled date of camp.
Structure:
What are the goals of Beach Camp (Ripples):
- To teach ages 5–8 foundational beach safety, basic ocean habits, and supervised water confidence.
What are the goals of Beach Camp (Waves):
- To develop teamwork, sportsmanship, beach etiquette, and competitive fun through Coast Cup competitions.
What are the goals of surf camp:
- To create lifelong surfers through ocean education, safety training, surf technique, and environmental awareness. Campers learn tides, currents, swells, surf mechanics, board control, turning, and ocean ecosystems.

What are drop-off and pick-up locations?
- Beach Camp: Del Rey Lagoon Park
- Surf Camp: Dockweiler State Beach LFG T49
What happens if my child is going to be late?
- Please call us to let us know, and walk your child to our camp. Location Director Phone # will be provided upon registration.
What happens if I cannot pick my child up in time?
- Late fee will be assessed $5.00/5 Minutes
Schedule/ Daily Life:
What does a typical day at Coast Academy look like?
- Each day, campers will go through a lesson based on ocean skills/awareness, play games and have supervised water times. We will break for snack and lunch.
What are drop-off and pick-up times?
- 8:45AM-9:15AM, 1:45PM-2:15PM
